We were in Port-au-Prince after Papa Doc when Baby Doc was still in power. The Tonton Macoutes were still out there. We stayed a night in a hotel. We off-loaded the jeep there from the Fri. That night we drove in a market place swarming with people. People were all dressed in rags with the whole scene lit primarily by torchlight. A smartly dressed guy wearing sunglasses stepped in front of the car, turned and bent his arm back to ease-up the hem of his jacket so we would see a pistol stuck in his belt. Don’t know what he was trying to say. Whether we were safe because he was there or in danger.
